Rehabilitation Medicine Overview

The department provides comprehensive, interdisciplinary medical rehabilitation for patients with disabilities resulting from illness or accident. The goal is towards optimal functional ability and mobility, enabling a discharge home, reintegration into the family and society.

Candidates for Rehabilitation Medicine include:

  • Neurologic
    Stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, neural infections and degeneration, Parkinson's, motor neuron diseases, myopathies
  • Orthopaedic
    Fractures, joint-replacements, musculoskeletal injuries, amputations, back surgeries
  • Medical
    Cardiac, pulmonary, arthritis and connective tissue diseases, cancer, general deconditioning, chronic pain
  • Surgical
    Amputations, general deconditioning/debility

Subspecialty Clinics

Referral criteria:

  • Functional deficits, need for therapeutic modalities or equipment/assistive device such as braces/prosthesis
  • Medically stable
  • Adequate cognition and motivation

Clinic schedule: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon
